Video Games: when is someone too young to play?

Call of Duty 4raggety writes "Yes, we are the killer OLD farts but many of us have kids who still live at home and mooch off of us. Many even have kids who are old enough to play video games and I''ve seen other clans with father-son teams. It''s a way for kids to be part of their parents lives and vice-versa but when is it too young?

You may be wondering what brought this about. I was reading an article today about a guy by the name of Jack Thompson who was disbarred from practicing law. If you don''t know Jack, he''s a Florida lawyer who''s been a big opponent of violent video games. Apparently the court didn''t like his handling of court cases and stripped him of his profession. So this begged the question in my mind of when is a child too young? I''m not advocating for or against kids playing video games and especially violent ones. I do agree in the right to play what you want to play but what about protecting kids? It seems like an obvious question but when do we draw the line and say yes or no?

We''ve seen in recent court cases examples of kids acting out video games (i.e. Columbine, etc). Kids can do stupid things. There''s no denying it. They see something whether in a movie or a game and they think, "I can do that!!" Then they learn about the laws of physics and gravity or the law of consequences. Also, we could put this back on the parents. We could say that a parent should be monitoring their kid and making the decisions about whether they think they''re mature enough to realize it''s just fantasy. If you''ve ever studied psychology, you know that kids learn mainly from watching others do something. They study behavior and learn to mimic that behavior. So this brings us back to the question at hand, when is a child too young to play video games?

I''ve started a poll in our forums to ask this question and get everyone''s input. I value this not only as a father but also as one who is unsure of how much the government should be involved (warning labels, etc). Let me know what you think.

Voice your opinion in the poll"

COD4: Patch 1.5 Released

Call of Duty 4raggety writes "For those you of you that follow COD4 news are probably already aware of the new patch 1.5 that came out on Friday but I thought it was worth exploring what changes were made to the game with this release. After reviewing the changes, they arent extremely significant and there were some hopes of a new map (i.e. Winter Crash) but alas with the release of the custom mapping tool and all the new maps available, it just didnt happen this time around.

So heres the list of changes for all yall to use for toilet paper:

* Fixed server browser not showing all of the servers * The "hold [ ] to steady" sniper scope hint will only appear if you can use it
* Fixed game not recognizing IWDs existing if they are all in fs_basepath and none are in the main/ folder
* Made mod scripts able to change stats
* Allow developer_script for mulitiplayer modding
* Fixed map rotation errors with usermaps
* Fix for reloading several times after connecting to a modded server
* Fixed minimap not showing up in the menu for usermaps
* Fixed an issue with Http redirect downloads.
* Mod tools will now work with other languages
Discuss this in the forums if you feel like commenting on any of these.

Take me to Infinityward"
